Untitled (The Card-Player)
2005
This work was first shown at Keith Talent Gallery, London in a solo show in 2007. It was shot in France and shows my partner playing cards in our room. Its the most intimate picture I’ve taken, my partner was an artist, comfortable with being photographed and with the image being exhibited. More than any of my works my relationship to this photograph will change over time. It represents a trust in my work from my partner and a desire to capture fleeting moments, of a delight in diagonals and the softness of the light, delineating aspects of form. Like much of my work there is a simplicity, a cliché to the subject and setting, these are straight forward narratives presented simply, made complex over time.
