To die by your side
2017
To Die By Your Side is an audio piece recorded inside a car while I drive and sing a track by The Smiths There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. The work is introspective, quiet, you’re inside the car with me and the song, but I also have to concentrate on the road and passing traffic and find myself driving to the rhythm and pace of the song, increasing in speed to match the lyrics ‘…and if a double decker bus, crashes into us, to die by your side, well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine…’ With thanks and apologies for carsickness to Lucy Frears, for the great sound recording and editing. Part of ‘Sound Show’, 2017 at Porthmeor Studios, St Ives, curated by Naomi Frears, including work by Josie Cockram, Dan Scott and Oliver Sunderland.
