Exeter Phoenix Moving Image Commission - Shortlist

Collaborative practice with Max Catterall since last year, films recently shown as part of PIGDOGMONKEYFESTOS at Airspace Gallery and Exeter Phoenix and as part of open screening at Whitechapel Gallery. Proposal for new moving image work has been shortlisted for the Exeter Phoenix Artists' Moving Image Commission.  Max is based in Bournemouth, and I will shortly be moving to St Ives to take up role as Learning Curator at Tate St Ives, the Commission would be a great chance to continue to develop our practice with the support of a major South West gallery.

New work

Filming in the studio this week, working on a new moving image piece for the forthcoming exhibition 'Eventually Everything Connects' at Solent Showcase gallery with Mandy Lee Jandrell (inc. collaborative piece with Max Catterall). Working title 'The Assistant', filming in Russian Club studios (thank you Matt Golden) around the idea of the slippage between a directed and accidental moment, conflating the role of Photographer / Assistant and the studio as a site of installation and potential dwelling.  Thanks to Nadège Mériau for her assistance and consulting. Publication to accompany the show drawn from the project blog - connectseverything.tumblr.com

Except The Mirror talk

Talk yesterday with Alice Walton at Format Festival for the 'Except The Mirror' exhibition. Installation shots above from the show, which includes the work of Sophie Clements, Annie MacDonell, Tom Lovelace, Richard Paul, Melanie Stidolph and Alice Walton. Alice and I talked about and invited audience participation into the concept of 'The Double' in artist's practice.  We have begun a two year conversation project to culminate in a joint installation / text piece.  Our starting point for the talk was this quote from Emma Cocker ‘An action is begun before knowing what it might enable. A conversation is initiated in the absence of intention; attention given to the pauses and durations breathed between the words.’

Acts Of Looking

New work Diversions and stills from the video The Conversation III are included in Acts of Looking, a new online project curated by Hannah Starkey. Launched as a projection onto the walls of the Royal Festival Hall as part of Southbank Centre's Women of the World Festival - Friday 6th - Sunday 8th March. Includes work by Clare Strand, Melanie Manchot, Anna Fox, Esther Teichmann and Melina Gibson - actsoflooking.tumblr.com

Eventually Everything Connects

'Eventually Everything Connects' is an exhibition with Mandy Lee Jandrell at Solent Showcase in Southampton. Mandy and I have known each other for 10 years and first showed together at the Regency Townhouse in Brighton in 2006. Both of our work has recently undergone a transformation in concerns and appearance and we'll be bringing these together through video, sculpture and large scale collage works in this two person show from 15 May - 27 June, www.solent.ac.uk/showcase.
